Unity 3D Tips

I WILL BE ADDING MORE STUFF HERE AS I REMEMBER THEM OR LEARN THEM

THESE WON’T BE IN ANY SPECIAL ORDER YET ..BUT AT LEAST THEY WILL BE HERE

HERE ARE SOME THINGS I LEARNT SO FAR WHILE USING UNITY 3D:

IF YOU EXPORT YOUR 3DS MAX FBX AND IT IS FACING THE WRONG WAY OR WRONG DIRECTION :

you can create an empty gameobject and put your FBX in it as a child and set the pivot of the empty gameobject where you want it to be

or you can try to set the pivot in 3ds max to X to 90, Y t0 zero , Z to zero and then export it as a FBX file with Y up … with my experience with this problem, the first solution was the best one

WHEN YOU MAKE A 3DS MAX MODEL AND EXPORT IT TO UNITY :

export it as a FBX file and your model in Unity will have all animations and parts in the right place most of the time – hardly ever is there any issues when exporting the FBX file as long as you follow the guidelines from the previous paragraph

MAKING PARTICLE EMMITTERS:

there are 3 parts for them and you need all 3 of them ( renderer, animator and ellipsoid emmitter)

im using anim8or for modeling a bit since it is so easy, then i put those models into 3ds max and turn them into fbx files for unity

when you make your own textures, textures are set at 512 x 512 , 1024 x 1024, 2048 x 2048  for unity to use them

windows paint program works good for texture making

if you are making textures, pressing print screen twice takes a screenshot of what is on your whole screen at the time you press print screen twice – after that, you just press paste in your windows paint program and there is your screenshot to edit for texturing !

when and if you make a script and it does not work and just gives errors, then delete that script that makes errors

unity will not work until the script with errors is fixed ( most of the time )

always make notes when you learn something different or new so that you can remember it

making notes or putting ideas into words helps you remember and learn better

make backups of your projects frequently so that you won’t lose all your work if something happens

if you want to make your gameobjects do something or be more than a piece of furniture ingame, then add scripts to them to make them move around, pulsate, rotate, interact with the player, etc…

create the script and add the script to gameobject you want in the hierarchy area

if you can’t find your gameobject in the scene :

highlight it in the hierarchy and clik inside the scene window and press the F key – this will focus in on your highlighted gameobject and you should be able to see it there now – when you first start making your level or when you don’t have so many gameobjects in the scene, then you could set your gameobjects X,Y,Z positions to near zero and that way you will be able to find the gameobjects quicker and easier

YOU CAN ACTUALLY COPY AND PASTE  WHAT YOU WANT FROM ONE SCENE TO ANOTHER !

all you do is highlight what you want to copy in your hierarchy area and then right click and copy it

then go into your other scene or new scene and paste ! easy as that ! i was trying to make some packages to put into my new scene and thought id try to just copy and paste and voila !!
